Commercial Vent Hood and Fire Suppression System Inspections

Running a busy restaurant can be stressful, and sometimes kitchen maintenance gets pushed to the back burner—but it shouldn’t.  The survival of your business depends on your fire suppression system’s ability to detect and suppress flames before they become uncontrollable. Between the heat, cooking grease, and the fast-paced working environment, commercial kitchen fires can ignite in the blink of an eye, and without a dependable fire suppression system they can be detrimental to your employees, customers, and property.

If your commercial kitchen’s fire suppression system needs an inspection, contact Martin Blough Company today. Our technicians will provide a thorough inspection to ensure your restaurant is prepared in the event of a fire.

NFPA Requirements for Commercial Vent Hoods

and Fire Suppression Systems

Although the National Fire Protection Agency’s (NFPA) requirements vary depending on the type of cooking performed in your commercial kitchen, some requirements are consistent for all kitchen suppression systems. NFPA-96 requires that all kitchen hoods:

  • Are frequently scrubbed and cleaned down to bare metal
  • Have no grease or oil contamination remaining on the hoods or vents
  • Are not treated in any way—this could prevent them from trapping grease effectively
  • Have routine inspections by a licensed fire protection company (like Martin Blough Company)

If your kitchen hood hasn’t been inspected recently, don’t wait.  Scheduling an inspection ensures that your kitchen’s suppression system is ready to handle any unexpected situation!
